Hey Colin! I am beyond excited for the show at the Rhyman!

My sister and I have VIP and are so excited to see you guys after so long. Show number 8 for me! We are making some hand made embroidered themed overalls and super excited to meet more fans!

I would love to hear Shiny again, one of my favorites to hear you play live!

Yep! I'll be at the Ryman show in Nashville as well! Last time the band did "The Tain" and that was simply magical! Would love to hear lots from "The Hazards of Love". (I'm a Prog-Rock fan, so those really fit into my happy place). Here's a video I took from that April 2017 show: https://youtu.be/0Iun7Hxv2rs

i'm also going to be at the ryman! coming in from memphis, this will be my first decemberists concert and i somehow managed to get third row center--but i'll be on my own, so i'm hoping to meet some friendly faces!!

Same here! I’ll be at Nashville. Traveling in from Ohio.

We'll be at the Ryman, too. I am intrigued by the idea of these overalls--I'm going to be on the lookout for them!

Yessss I hope they turn out good im only halfway done

I’ll also be in Nashville and I’m coming alone and it’s the day before my birthday so I would love to meet some of you fine folks!

I'll be at the Ryman, too, and it's 5 days after my birthday :) Happy early birthday to you!

We're going to the Nashville show too!!!

Yessss!!! Where you sitting?

founding

By some miracle, front row center 😭😭😭 I never clicked through purchasing screens so fast

Expand full comment

Balcony Row F.... couldn't get through the queue..... {eye twitch} The Axs app has done nothing to curb ticket scalping and in my opinion has made tickets even more difficult to get, especially in venues like the Ryman, unless you want to pay six times face value. I've been shut out of the last three concerts I've tried to get tickets for, even when trying multiple days with multiple presale options.

That sucks. I actually had the same seats for the 20 years tour and was heartbroken when the tour was canceled because I thought there was no way that lightning would strike twice

Expand full comment

we snagged front row center at the Ryman years ago for Regina Spektor and to this day it's still one of my favorite show experiences. Super excited for you! We were much closer with our original 2020 tour seats.... sigh... ha!

Nashville for us as well!

Hey! We'll see you at edgefield (will you please play June Hymn and Grace Cathedral Hill???) Looking forward to you being our first live show since covid hit! <3

Expand full comment

I too would love June Hymn! Learned it from here back in June! Woot!

Expand full comment

Yes!!! We will be at Edgefield, and we would LOVE to hear June Hymn! That song means so much to us. Every year, on June 1st, we drive to Springville Road and watch the sun rise over the St. John's Bridge. It's become a fun tradition. We would love to hear June Hymn! Thank you!

Really looking forward to seeing you on Saturday! We originally bought tickets for 2020, and then it was postponed until 2021, and then canceled, but we are so excited that it's finally happening!

Expand full comment

Likewise seeing you at Edgefield! ALSO learned to play "June Hymn" from this newsletter (it's my sweetheart's favorite and her birthday is in June) also would love to hear it in Troutdale. Secondary requests would be Bagman's Gambit and Red Right Ankle. Can't wait! Thank you so much!

Expand full comment

After discussions with the group going tomorrow, The Singer Addresses His Audience would be favored and we will "cry every tear in our emotional ocean (emocean)" if you play "I Was Meant for the Stage". We ARE theatre kids, yes.

Same requests please for Edgefield. Just introduced a friend to the D’s a couple hours ago…one thing led to another and I found out she’s a drummer who has opened for Mitch Ryder/Detroit Wheels, Paul Revere and the Raiders , others. Had no idea, as we taught catechism together😮. I explained how we made a quilt for Jenny ELEVEN years ago after her ex. Glad she’s fine. it was cool getting other Orate folks to send in squares…the world has changed and stayed the same. Anyway, have a great tour all! Sue

Although, you did recently post keeping me awake by on your Instagram story, taking me way back... I would not be opposed to a tarkio song being added to the setlist. :)

I haven't gotten a ticket yet but plan on going to the Boston show.

On a Sad note my mom passed last week and this'll be one of the first joyous things I'm doing since her passing.

She's a NYer and I've been living in Boston forever so Oh New England from the bridesmaids would be amazing

Condolences on your loss, friend. 💔

Expand full comment

Appreciated. It's still raw and I feel weird posting publicly about it still

Expand full comment

Completely understood, fam. After my mom died, I hated telling people - everyone always got so awkward like they didn't know what to say, and I didn't like making people feel bad. I won't insult you by saying "it gets better" or some bullshit, I hated that, but hang in there and take care of yourself, and enjoy yourself thoroughly at the show because I'm sure your Mom would want you to.

So glad to hear you have found a way to engage with joy at such a difficult time.

I’ll be in Seattle tomorrow and Portland Saturday for my 52 and 53rd shows! We’re all just excited to have you touring again! Trying to think of a song you haven’t played in a while… how about Shanty for the Arethusa? I don’t think I’ve heard that in a minute. Safe journeys, and stay healthy!

I wish I counted how many times I saw this band live. I saw them in attendance at others’ shows (for sure to see DCFC @ Crystal Ballroom).

I was at the bar before a Decemberists show when Colin came right up next to me and ordered a beer.

Hey! So excited to see you guys live again here in Seattle after so long! The virtual tour helped get our kids, 3 and 6, interested in you guys and I can’t wait for my youngest to finally attend his first concert! My husband and I went to your first show back at the Wilma after years of not playing Montana and we haven’t missed you in Seattle since we moved here 11 years ago.

For song requests, I would cry happy tears hearing “Rise to Me,” since my 6 year old is also autistic and it was the first time it felt like someone understood us. For a happier request, my 3 year old loves “Down by the Water” so much that he hears your songs and goes “it’s the water song!” regardless of what song it actually is.

Can’t wait to see you at Edgefield! The Tain would be so cool to hear live! Loved your recent solo show in Beaverton as well :D

Hi Colin! I’m so glad you guys are touring again and I can’t wait to see you all at Beak & Skiff in Lafayette, NY.

We’re staying at a BNB and the room is called “The Shiraz Room” which I feel like is the most Decemberist thing I could do to prepare for this concert.

I think if you played Apology Song it would be the most hilarious thing ever because my boyfriend (who will also be attending) has a brother named Stephen whose bicycle was stolen recently.

I'll be at the Seattle area Marymoor show tonight, as well as the Edgefield show (vip!) on Saturday!

No song preferences, just happy to be along for the ride. I've been to numerous shows over the last 15 yrs. So pleased to have this part of my life back! All of Collins work has consistently held in my #1 spot since I found him on a random mix cd in high-school.

See you all at Edgefield Saturday! Making a little birthday trip to kick around Portland with dear old friends & see the show, couldn’t ask for a dreamier way to spend it.

(Judiciously) this 30 year old kid who was lucky enough to see their first Decemberists show at 14 (& who will be sentimentally sporting their appallingly well-worn tour shirt from said show) would be over the moon if you played Wanting Comes in Waves Reprise & Hazards 4! Would also enthusiastically settle for Bus Mall, (which I’ve always hoped you might just play at all Portland shows as you often so wonderfully do Grace Cathedral for us in the Bay).

Can’t wait for it. Thank you for all of these incredible years of music & stories & fortification.
