I am looking forward to getting my record… sometime next Thursday, according to UPS. Sucks to pre-order it on the day it was available and then have to wait a week while all your online friends are talking about how good it is.
I could listen to it on Spotify, but that lacks the joy of dropping the needle for a first listen.
Sometimes it’s hard to live in such desolate far away land like Southern California, where the post takes so long to arrive.
I’ve already listened through several times since last night. Easily a top five favorite album! Admittedly curious about “Won’t You Come Home” that was teased on the band insta, but won’t press about it today 😉
I’m debating whether I ought to listen now or wait to hear the music at the show in Portland. Either way I’m thrilled about this album and grateful to see you all live (for the first time!)
Surprised and delighted to hear the lyrics to “William Fitzwilliam” and realize it is indeed that W.F. I’m right in the middle of reading the Wolf Hall trilogy. Thank you for this!
I am absolutely loving the album. It’s a 10/10. However, the mix across all platforms seems really bad. Clipping in many of the songs and a muddy, wall of sound in the non-acoustic tracks.
My guess is something went wrong in the transfer of files? Your production is too good to make these kinds of mistakes in studio.
I hate to be *that* guy, but has the band seen this feedback on their socials?
I love The Decemberists so so much and I hope no offense is taken by bringing this up. ❤️
It gets weirder, though. I noticed the same last night, when I put on music as I was leaving work. I was thinking "man, this sounds really muddy compared to when I first heard it".
So this morning, I did some investigation of "Long White Veil", which I feel is a good test track because it's so clean and has a lot of crash cymbals (which makes low bitrate really, really eady to spot).
All of this testing was done with spotify set to highest quality, and using my Soundcore Life Note 3 TWS earbuds. Yeah, yeah, I know... but I know what they're supposed to sound like, and I can tell when they're the limiting factor to sound quality.
"Long White Veil" on Spotify on my android phone sounds muddy and distant, like it's low bitrate. There's also some clipping evident in the chorus.
Now for the really weird part: When I connect the same bluetooth headphones to my laptop (Linux, pipewire, etc.), the Spotify version played there sounds great- indistinguishable from the youtube video.
I wonder if this isn't a problem with the mix, but rather with something in the file messing up the Spotify android app's ability to transcode? Other albums sound fine on spotify on this phone. I'll leave the question of "why is the app messing with it" to someone else, but that seems to be the case, at least for me.
Couldn’t wait any longer for the vinyl to arrive here in Melbourne, Australia, especially after such a brilliant Rumpus live stream. This is such a great album. Listened to it in order (as per instructions) and Joan makes so much more sense now :) For me the icing on the cake is to hear the studio version of William Fitzwilliam after loving the original at-home performances during lockdown. I’d just read The Mirror And The Light at the time too. Thankyou so much Colin and the whole gang, hope to see you down here again soon!
I live for those moments when one decides to abandon attempts at fitting the disc back in the sleeve. It’s one of those liberating, Kierkegaardian Angst-breaking experiences of radical ontological freedom! Yes!
Peter Buck ✔️
Mike Mills ✔️
Michael Stipe ❓
Bill Berry ❓
Halfway to having all of the original members of REM guesting on records.
That guy's voice...does he have advice on TPS reports, too?

Gotta listen to sing along right??
Can’t wait to see you tonight!
I’ll be up in the balcony with my 19 year old who will be attending their first Decemberists show.
Thank you for this gem. On the second of what’s sure to be a thousand listens!
So excited for this! My friends and I are planning a listening/illmat party once my record arrives!
It's so good! I've already streamed through it twice this morning.
Surprised and delighted to hear the lyrics to “William Fitzwilliam” and realize it is indeed that W.F. I’m right in the middle of reading the Wolf Hall trilogy. Thank you for this!
Joan in the Garden. I can’t stop listening. Glorious.
I keep wondering about the significance of "wives of Ohio".... it does sound nice almost rhyming with "move me a mile" but is there more to it??
Yo! So great. My son loves The Reapers. He’s 8 and asks for it one a day now.
See you in Denver next month!

When I play this youtube video: https://youtu.be/65ZujegODRg?feature=shared on my phone, it sounds good.
