since i saw the decemberists open for carissa’s wierd in 2003, your music has been the only constant in my life so really, thank YOU for stepping into that studio 30 years ago.
I managed to catch The Quiet Girl in Lake Oswego this summer. What a treat to see an Irish language film in the cinema. One of my highlights for sure, too. I read Foster on a plane ... while we taxied.
I can somewhat relate to #6. I’ve hated our dishwasher since we moved into this house just before lockdowns in March 2020. Finally, about a month ago, I stormed into Home Depot and bought a new one on a random Tuesday evening. It took four plumbers to get the wretched one removed, but it eventually happened, the new one was installed, and I’ve never been so satisfied with an appliance.
I'm thankful for the sneak peaks you've been giving us of the new songs lately on your IG live performances here recently. Thanks so much for those, and for all the "inside views" you share with us here. Happy holidays to you and yours!
Great list! Nick Cave’s rendition of A Rainy Night in Soho at Shane MacGowan’s funeral was beautiful as well. Speaking of tearjerkers.....Nick Cave with Shane MacGowan singing What a Wonderful World video.... getting chocked up just thinking about it.
I picked up Inappropriate and had to put it down after reading the first couple of comics because it was good and it’s a small book and I want to savor it. Granted I could just read it again but there’s nothing like that first read!
A funeral that honors the subject with singing and dancing is an extraordinarily beautiful tribute and I heartily invite my survivors, should they feel so moved, to do the same at mine!
An outdoor screen was a priority in our landscaping project this summer. Perhaps someday, I'll use it for something other than late evening showings of Frozen.
It has been a week for crybabies. First watching O'Neill and Hansard, then watching an NYPD choir form in order to sing "Galway Bay" just because it should have already happened.
Can vouch for “Black Lamb, Grey Falcon”. I rarely recommend it because of its size, but you’re the perfect reader for it. Thanks for making me go back and revisit Dickens! 👍✌️

All the best people are cry babies! ❤️❤️❤️

David Ogden Stiers is a favorite thing of mine every year, including from that movie haha. Outdoor movies sound like a blast!!

Choked up....damn autocorrect
Dining in Portland is definitely on my list too, and Han Oak is at the top of my "to dine" list.

This was a super newsletter, Colin. Thank you so much!
I started Foster and it was so terribly good and then the rising fear began to shift into rising terror and I just had to put it down for... later.

Perhaps the best meal I've ever had was at Kann. Absolutely mind blowing.
