After a few years of pandemic and a few years of parenting some babies and young kids during said pandemic, this place is a lovely place to escape to. It’s invigorating to find that part of me again. To have this space to intentionally reconnect with music I love, read a charming perspective, talk about intellectual thoughts on the world and books. Be among *my* people that love the same things. It’s been emotional to rediscover my own adult self again. I knew I would enjoy attending a concert, always have and it’s always a treat to see you live, but I wasn’t expecting to start sobbing with the relief of (a degree of) normalcy again. So if you saw a mid-30s mom crying at the SLC concert, that was me. I was behind the drunk girls twerking the whole time, haha. Thanks ❤️
This past year has been inexpressably brighter for the presence of the Machine Shop! All of it — but the annotated songs, demos, lost songs and tour diaries have been such gifts especially— the kind of thing teenage me scavenging the barely-youtube-era internet for Decemberists content could’ve only dreamed of. Thanks so much for all you’ve shared with us! Happy birthday dear Machine Shop.
