Thursday, September 7

Still don’t have COVID. I am unstoppable. I have super immunity, clearly. Clinical studies should be commissioned on me for the next multivalent vaccine.

The drive into the studio is… is unremarkable. I’d watched an R.E.M. video on YouTube this morning, a set from the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA, in 1992, and it inspires my music choice in the car: I pick Green, the band’s major label debut from 1989. It still sounds like 8th grade to me. I am there, with the first note of that weird angular Peter Buck riff at the top of of “Pop Song 89,” sitting backstage in the school auditorium, waiting to make my entrance as Big Julie in the HMS production of Guys and Dolls. Weird how music works that way.
