I first heard this song years ago on a mixtape of Flying Nun songs that a friend made for me. For those of you who might not know, Flying Nun is a record label out of New Zealand that has for years released some of the best weird/lo-fi/infectious pop music on the globe. Chris Knox is an elder statesman of the NZ indie scene and a big part of the Flying Nun story. This song encapsulates everything that’s great about his songwriting: it’s super catchy, it’s sweet, and it’s ever so slightly lopsided. I tried my hand at in the Machine Shop whilst I squashed box elder beetles that landed on my shoulder during takes (it’s a long story). Listen in, paid Machinists!
