Downtown Missoula ca. 1998, while the author was a resident

This is another of those songs that was caught in the gap between my moving from Missoula and my arrival in Portland. Between Tarkio and The Decemberists. It was, technically, a Tarkio song — and for those who don’t know, Tarkio was the band I formed in Missoula, Montana while I was at school there. We released a couple EPs and an LP and then shut up shop when I moved on to more westerly pastures. Most of our output was collected and released as Omnibus by Kill Rock Stars in 2006. This is a song that Tarkio played live, but never recorded. I played a Zoom show during the lockdown and it was requested, so I dusted it off. I like it! It’s very simple, a little cynical, kinda personal. Enjoy!
