Okay, this is probably me just making it about me... BUT, last night I dreamt that I was at one of your shows (and I say "your" because it definitely felt like a solo act).
It took place in a movie theater and you sat upon a stool. So maybe more like a one man act or a bit of standup.
You then proceeded to sing "Last Night I Dreamt...", walking through the aisles as you did so. The funnier part being that you were doing it in a very Rat Pack way (imagine Dean Martin singing/talking to the crowd).
Ocular migraines - I get them as well. Sometimes it comes with a headache and sometimes it doesn’t. Things that can cause them for me are a drop in barometric pressure, ink from a printed page- yes sir I’ve gotten them from a book - usually one that I’ve just purchased, handling metals - counting money, nails, screws… crazy list right? What usually helps me get rid of them is Benadryl. Yup a good old fashioned antihistamine. I hope yours wasn’t too horrible.
Fully support AMC's lofty standing in your dream rankings. Mark Eitzel's 60 Watt Silver Lining album also a gem. Not sure any other voice could pull off as well those painfully slow motion 'portamentos' in Mission Rock Resort. "Nothing changes..."
Heard The Decemberists for the first time while walking uphill to my apartment in a house on Twin Peaks, SF. Leslie Anne Levine. KQED. You had me from the first bars as I stalked through the fog that rages over those peaks in the late evening. Perfect ghost weather. Been a great ride. Heading there in a few weekends to visit my brother and some old friends.
Sorry about the headaches. I get migraines occasionally, Tylenol and Dramamine work for me.
The Two shows were great. ! You played a lot of songs I’m must fond of. Severed — chills— I’m sure I wasn’t the only one. My friend, who came with me, had never heard of The Decemberists, (hard to believe), and he’s a jazz guitarist/vocalist and used to play at The Brasserie in Portland. He really liked your music (I was worried), and remarked about the repor you have with the audience and how charming you are. Stripey shirt on second night! Thank you for those concerts.
The first time we got to see you sing live was in San Francisco, on a Colin Meloy Sings tour (2013 or so). You did the Kinks covers.
It was such a great introduction, and a great trip for my wife and I. Our first trip without kiddos.
So, in a sense, you are my favorite San Francisco artist (ok.. bit of a stretch).
I was fortunate to see you this past weekend in Astoria. The shows were amazing. I love smaller venues like that.
Severed was mind blowing. I also fell in love again with After The Bombs.
That opening chord made me think you were going to play Make You Better, then when AtB started my jaw dropped.
Thank you for the shows, for being OK with people taking pictures, and as always for the music.

PS, See you in November with the Symphony!

Point being- you titled this A Dream.
Anyways... 😁

American Beauty was my favorite. Yours?
